Today, the Geraldton Fishermen’s Co-operative is the world’s largest exporter of Rock lobster and has enjoyed an unparalleled reputation worldwide for providing Rock lobsters that offer superior taste and quality. 2017 marks another major milestone in the company’s history. Unique in this day and age amongst many companies that have gone global, grandsons of the founding families are still involved.

Early 1900’s
The start of Rock lobster fishing off the remote coast of Western Australia....

1950
A small group of fishing families banded together to form a fishing cooperative. Among the founding members of the co-op were Felice (Phil) Miragliotta, Victor Basile, Frank Bombara and Bill Burton. With the end of the Second World War and a resultant sense of optimism and demand for more upmarket products they recognized the huge potential for generating high value income from lobsters of the highest quality and standard. The tradition of fishing runs through many of the Co-op members and their families. Today, grandsons of some of these founding families are still involved....

With the economic development in Asia whole cooked lobsters are exported to Singapore and Japan....

1987 – 1988
Taiwanese became fans of Western Rock lobsters. Live Brolos lobster exports to Taiwan overtook those to Japan....
